2017 Hikes: Burning Gluts for Lakes & Buttes

Apex Physical Therapy is celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, and we are proud to be part of the Madras Community. One of our most important goals is to give back to the community that supports us. We offer Aquatic healing classes at the Madras Aquatic Center, provide clinics to learn healthy habits with stretching and exercise, provide athletic training support to our schools, and sponsor local events here in Jefferson County.

The Apex PT Motto is “Improving Lives Through Movement.” So with that in mind, Apex PT would like to present the Burning Gluts for Lakes and Buttes hikes for 2017.

The goal of the hikes are to encourage exploration of our beautiful Central Oregon wilderness, make new friends, have fun, and be fit! Whether you are a novice or an expert, you can participate.

The first annual 4 Peaks in 4 months challenge was a great success in 2016. We had beginner and experienced people come out and participate in all four hikes with some new hikers feeling like they had one of their best summers ever, experiencing challenges they did not think they were capable of achieving.  This year, I wanted to explore new and more moderate terrain in the Cascades.

The 4 hikes will be Black Butte, Broken Top Lake, Green Lakes, and Maxwell Butte. All of the hikes have amazing scenery, including mountain views, lava flows, and waterfalls that are all in our own backyard.  All 4 hikes will be led by Apex P.T. Physical Therapist Jim Wallace who has hiked these trails and will assist you in preparing yourself mentally and physically to be successful.

The hikes are non-technical approaches requiring only hiking boots and the 10 essentials for hiking. The first hike is 4 miles long with 1,600 feet of elevation gain and will progress to the last hike being 10 miles long with 2,600 feet of elevation gain. We will go at a pace that everybody can stay together with rest breaks to refuel and re-hydrate. Slow and steady wins the race!

Last year, Jim also led some training hikes at Smith Rock to get ready for the first hike at Black Butte.

The tentative schedule will be Black Butte on Saturday, July 15; Broken Top Lake on Saturday, Aug. 5; Green Lakes on Saturday, Aug. 19; and Maxwell Butte on Saturday, Sept. 9. We look forward to meeting those of you who will join us for this adventure! Start training today! Smith Rock is a great place to warm up those legs!

Please call Apex Physical Therapy at 541-475-1218 to sign up, and Jim will contact you with specifics when all details have been finalized.

**Apex PT is not officially guiding the hikes. Participation is strictly voluntary and participation is at your own risk.
